　まずディスク1には、1969年グリンジョンズによる最初のミックスが収録されています。今までのタイトルは大別して音質がいまひとつのもの、音質は良いものの欠落があったVIGOTONE盤の2種類がありました。それら一長一短のあった既発盤の特長と欠点を、本作は音質の良い完全盤として収録しています。

　ディスク2には、1970年グリンジョンズによる2度目のミックスが収録されています。既発盤をお持ちの方は気がついていると思いますが、この元テープは経年劣化により全体を通してだけではなく部分的にもかなりピッチの狂いが生じていました。本作ではこれらが完璧に補正されており、唯一ピッチの正常なものとなっています。

　1969年と1970年のそれぞれのミックスは、収録曲の違いは別として、ほぼ相違ないのではとも言われていましたが、細かい違いが数多くあり、聴けば聴くほど新たな発見があることでしょう。

　ディスク3とディスク4は、このゲットバック・アルバムのために制作されたものの、何らかの意図により本編から漏れた音源を収録しています。このEXTRA VERSIONと題された2枚のディスクにより、コレクターズ・アイテムとしては初めて、本作はこのアルバム製作の過程で作られた全てのバージョンを網羅している初のタイトルになります。ディスク3はテープ・ソース、ディスク4はアセテート音源を中心に収録されており、聴きどころとしては、「Dig It」のロング・バージョン、映画『LET IT BE』でも見ることができるロックンロール・メドレーなど。さらに発売前に北米のラジオ局で放送されたアセテート・ソースの過去最高音質のもの。アルバム編纂前にグリンジョンズがどのような形で、どのような意図で製作にあたっていたか、これら本編から漏れたバージョン、ミックス、テイクを聴くことにより推測でき、研究には欠かせない音源となっています。

ディスク4の14曲目以降はグリンジョンズの手を離れ、他のプロデューサーによるバージョンを収録。フィルスペクターに手による「Teddy Boy」に関してはグリンジョンズとのミックスの違いが顕著で、二人のアプローチの違いを伺い知ることができます。ジョンバレット音源に関しては、ロックンロール・メドレーをステレオで聴くことができるなど、さらに深く追求した収録になっています。

　最後にパッケージについても少し触れます。今回、全セットに、研究本として一冊に相当する厚いブックレットが付属しています。内容は複雑なゲットバックセッションに至り、紆余曲折を経て終えるまでの過程、本作に収録されているそれぞれのバージョンの詳細な解説、さらにジャケット写真撮影にまつわる謎と推測など、あらゆる角度から新たな視点で切り込んだ、かなり読み応えある日本語ブックレットとなっています。ぜひこのブックレットを読みながら時系列に沿って本作を聴き進めていただければ、今までとは違った面白さを感じられると思います。

　数多くのアイテムを排出しているこの未発表アルバム『GET BACK』ですが、音質、内容、パッケージと、全ての充実度において本作こそその頂点に立つ決定盤であると確信しております。本作があれば今までのものが不要になるのはもちろん、今後も本作を凌駕するタイトルは出ないでしょう。ディスク１にグリンジョンズ1969ミックス、ディスク2にグリンジョンズ1970ミックス、ディスク3とディスク4には関連するミックスをアセテートからリールテープから1982年のジョンバレットミックスまで集めたオルタネト・ミックス＆バージョンを収録。とにかくコレクターズ・アイテムとしては初めて関連音源を収録した唯一のタイトルとなっています。パッケージを包むプラスチック・スリップケース仕様で、さらに43ページの資料＆研究解説書が付属。美しいピクチャー・ディスクで、永久保存のがっちりプレス盤。大切なコレクションに加えていただければ幸いです。
