363 婦人用 大島の着物

奄美大島で伝統的に行われてきた泥染めの7マルキカタス式の大島です。



黒地に青と赤の絣糸で南天を織り成しています。



黒地に織られた南天の柄は3枚の葉と数個の赤い実を付けているのが特徴的なます。



7マルキカタス式の絣糸(模様のある糸)と地糸(無地の糸)の配列方法は、タテ糸の絣糸1本、地糸3本、で、絣1、地3、絣1、地3、絣1、地3、と並び、この配列がずっと続きます。(写真13 ~ 15枚目)



Tの字になるのはカタス式の特徴ですす。



奄美大島の自然が生み出す泥染めは、島に自生するテーチ木(シャリンバイ)という木の幹を煮出した汁で糸を何度も染めます。



その後、鉄分を豊富に含んだ泥田(どろた)に糸を浸します。



そうしますと、テーチ木のタンニンと泥の鉄分が化学反応を起こし、色素が定着して泥大島特有の深みのあるしなやかな黒褐色に染まります。



他の染色方法では出せない深みとツヤのある黒、そして色落ちしにくい丈夫さを持ち、長年の使用にも耐えうる耐久性も兼ね備えております。



と、言っても深い色合いが魅力の本場大島の泥染めの着物も適切なケアをしないと色あせや変色の原因になります。まず長時間の直射日光は避けてくださいね。



お子様やお孫さんの代までお召しいただけるように大事に扱って頂ければと思っています。



胴裏は白の羽二重の重めを使用、八掛は羽二重の様なタテヨコ糸共撚りをかけていない生地の赤色の思色を使用しています。
