・気動車特急全盛期の昭和40年代中盤頃の形態を忠実に模型化。

・キハ82はヘッド/テールライトを標準装備(消灯スイッチ付)。前照灯には電球色、トレインマーク照明には白色LEDを採用。トレインマーク・ライト類をリアルに再現。

・キハ82系の前面形状をはじめとする美しいプロポーションを忠実に再現。

・赤2号とクリーム4号に塗り分けられた82系気動車の塗色を美しく再現。

・熱線吸収ガラスを模してブルーに着色された窓ガラスを採用

・キハ82は製造時からクーラーを増設した後期形をプロトタイプに模型化

・DCC NMRA8ピンプラグ対応(モーター制御のみ)

・実車の連結器の形態を再現し、連結機能とスムースな曲線通過シーンを可能としたKATOカプラー密着自連形(PAT.)を標準装備。

・車体ナンバー、車体表記は細密なレタリングシートでお好みの番号・表記に選択可能。

キハ82 900番台はキロ80の1次車を昭和43年(1968)以降に先頭車化改造して登場しました。グリーン車時代の窓配置が特徴で、「いなほ」「つばさ」「ひたち」での活躍の後、北海道へ渡り「オホーツク」「北斗」としても活躍しました。

キハ82系は、非電化主要幹線気動車の特急化・増発を目的に、東北特急「はつかり」で実績を得たキハ81系をベースに誕生しました。また、同時に駆動エンジンを搭載した食堂車キシ80も登場しました。昭和36年(1961)10月、日本海縦貫線の特急「白鳥」でデビューを飾り、北海道の「おおぞら」、京都~長崎の「かもめ」、山陰特急の「まつかぜ」など、大都市と地方都市を結ぶ幹線・亜幹線の花形特急列車として長期にわたり活躍を続け、国鉄気動車特急の完成形として評価されています。
